The Almond Tree Blossom painting was Van Gogh’s first major work after moving from Paris to Arles. It is an oil on canvas depicting two rows of almond trees and blossoms with their branches spread out against a blue sky. In this early work, he used Impressionist techniques such as brushstrokes that are thick and heavy, creating a sense of movement. The Almond Blossom painting was made to celebrate the birth of his nephew and namesake, son of his brother Theo and sister-in-law Jo.
